2016 "Phoebe" Pinot Gris $27.00 Order

Winemaker's Notes
Cool fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Taster's Notes

Delicate fruity aroma and fresh crisp flavours of pear, apple and melon.  Good with antipasto, seafood, or spicy cuisine.

Smoky with a delicate floral nuance to the scent this is a fruity wine with hints of apricot then tropical fruit and melon. It's quite dry with a spicy zesty richness, an earthy undercurrent and a lightly honeyed texture and a lingering aftertaste of apricot and just ripe, late season pear.  Sue Courtney

2014 "Eos" Pinot Noir $32.00  Order

Winemaker's Notes
Fruit from the home block was fermented in stainless steel and matured for 6 months in French oak barriques.

Taster's Notes
Lovely garnet colour with typical aroma and taste of cherries and typical Pinot Noir earthiness make this a charming wine. Good with lamb, white meats or ham.

It has intensity to the purple-red colour, the creamy bouquet is very appealing and it’s silky in texture with a sensual smoky allure and a juicy disposition that balances the savoury backbone perfectly.
The fruit has all of those bittersweet red fruit connotations that I love so much in pinot noir — like Morello cherries, cranberries and tamarillo with gorgeous candied violet nuances coming through. Silky with a velvet glove caress to the finish and a pleasing aftertaste that has a lingering cherry succulence with underlying forest floor and white button mushroom notes – I love that it is savoury and succulent at the same time and the finish is fruity yet dry..

This robust, stylish wine, has a delightful perfumed aroma with rich cassis flavours enhanced with a firm backbone of fruit and oak tannins.

"This wine is made to last forever and is already a fine example of what Matakana can produce in good vintages. Bold and intense in colour, it has vibrant black berry flavours with a rich texture and vegetal elements. This makes for an almost European style that is much admired by many. Put some in the cellar and you will be rewarded.."    TiZwine.com
